2 Ways to Manufacture Synthetic Diamonds

Diamonds made in the laboratory with the same chemical composition as a natural diamond are called synthetic diamonds. These synthetic diamonds look exactly like the natural diamonds; they have the same clarity and fluorescence. Earlier these diamonds were used only for industrial purpose but they are now produced to be used in the manufacturing of jewellery as well. Some of the Jewellery distributors in Hong Kong have special equipment's to identify a synthetic diamond which otherwise is really difficult to be identified through naked eyes. Synthetic diamonds can be made in weeks which is far less time than natural diamonds, which takes years to form. There are two major techniques used to manufacture synthetic diamonds: -
  1. High pressure and High temperature (HPHT): - The HPHT technique is the most commonly used techniques to manufacture diamonds. Just like natural diamonds, synthetic diamonds are put under the artificially created condition of high pressure and temperature. The result is a synthetic diamond that looks exactly like a natural diamond.
  2. Chemical vapour deposition (CVD): - This technique involves heating a mix of hydrocarbon gas and hydrogen which produces carbon atoms. This carbon deposit when accumulates looks a lot like a square shaped plate of original looking synthetic diamond. The cost of lab-grown diamonds has fallen sharply due to the CVD technique.
These synthetic diamonds have gained a lot of popularity in recent time due to their 20-30% less price. Diamond manufacturers in Hong Kong, tells that the demand for these diamonds is not only increasing because of the less price but also because of their large scale availability. The market has grown in size due to increased demand by millennials for synthetic diamonds.
It is also very generally asked if these synthetic diamonds are good or fake. The answer to this question is: -
  1. Synthetic diamonds are not fake, they are just not natural.
  2. Synthetic diamonds are good and bad based on your demand. If you feel comfortable wearing a synthetic diamond then it can be a good choice for you if you have any budget constraints. 

Synthetic diamonds are available in multiple colours and sizes. These diamonds can be cut into any shape as per your preference. Multiple colour availability also makes these synthetic diamonds more attractive to females. With growing supply of synthetic diamonds, it is necessary to make sure that you are not paying the price for natural diamonds and getting synthetic diamonds instead.
