Diamonds and its mining ways
Diamonds are said to be a woman’s best friend and indeed it is, but it’s not just a woman but almost everyone loves diamond and consider them to be a priced possession.
Diamonds are owned in form of necklaces, earrings, rings and these sparkling stones are considered to be the most beautiful of stones present around. Though everyone loves it, not many of us know about the efforts it takes for a diamond to reach our households.
At KGK we believe that when you own a possession it is important to understand the entire process.
We will here talk about diamond mining – how diamond mines look like, how many types of diamond mines do we have, the commonly used mining technique, and other facts related to the mining process.
Earth is considered to be nearly 4.5 billion years old, the oldest diamonds are estimated to be crystallized about 3.3 billion years ago, these shining and sparkling stones were formed about 90-120 miles beneath the Earth’s surface, and need a mélange of remarkable pressure and temperatures (16520-23720 F) during their creation.
Diamonds are now easily accessible across the globe but were originally found and mined in India, Brazil, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Angola, and Congo.
The world’s top three mines are:
Botswana (Creating 24 million carats of diamonds)
Russia (Creating 17.8 million carats of diamonds)
Canada (Creating 10.9 million carats of diamonds)
The most used diamond mining methods are:
Open-pit mining is done mostly used in sandy places or places with unstable lands, this includes digging a large open pit in the earth’s surface to extract diamonds. This method is said to be unsafe to the environment.
Hard rock tunneling where vertical and horizontal tunnels are built by penetrating the earth’s surface to extract valuable stones. It is considered the most dangerous form of mining with a risk of explosion.
Alluvial mining is a process where small alluvial diamond deposits that end up in rivers
Marine diamond mining is the up-to-date diamond technique that involves the use of vertical and horizontal drilling into the ocean floor to extract diamonds through highly advanced technology.
KGK Group is a preferred buyer of De Beers, Alrosa, and Rio Tinto, and have their own diamond manufacturing units and diamond distribution centers worldwide.
